Cottage Party Notes 4
WORSHIP

• More quiet space associated with the time of prayer, more quiet time in general
• A more spiritual, less “heady” (intellectual) experience
• Livelier music, movement, people holding hands, physical expression, “more like a black church experience”, maximizing experience of connecting with the group as a whole
• One person in particular stressed a need to “be genuine” about including other religious traditions and was concerned about “hypocrisy” – e.g. saying that we include all religious traditions if we’re actually focused on Xianity and Judaism
• Want social justice connected to a spiritual core, a spiritual context for the social issues important to us; want to be inspired as a community to help us feel like we’re building social justice work together

GENERAL

• One person had a concern that the results of the survey would go unheeded (especially around changing music)
• One person said “we want to be in community but we’re not willing to commit to being in community; we talk about “community” without demanding participation and accountability; also said being intentional about expectations for membership is good, but thinks that “we’re hesitant to talk about” those – the dilemma is that we don’t have common beliefs to bind us together, so we need some other “glue”
